The 18-hole Urriðavöllur was inaugurated on August 8, 1997, but up until that time had been a 9-hole course since 1990. During the design, the main emphasis was placed on utilizing the peculiarities of the landscape. Under the lava rim there are many hollow surfaces so that the rim forms a beautiful backdrop. Then there are tees up in the edge of the lava to create an overview of the course ahead. There is basically one hole inside the lava. The top holes of the course are 100 meters above sea level, but most of them are 60-70 meters above sea level. All the courses of the course have been given names that are taken from old place names or landscapes in Urriðakotsland. The name of each track is recorded on a rock pillar, and there is also a picture of the track and the length is indicated.
When designing Urriðavallar, the first thought was that it would be a fun club course rather than a difficult competition course. However, the country's top golfers have learned that it is by no means an easy target from the back tees, and it is therefore also suitable as a competition course. No one can say against it that the golf course in Urriðavatnsdalur is in a beautiful environment where the facilities and communication are exemplary. It shall be left to the golfers, each one, to judge him in other respects.
