Bintan Lagoon Resort (Ian Baker-Finch)

Designed with the front nine holes snaking out from the resort and the back nine to the clubhouse, the Woodlands course has been laid over dramatically changing terrain. The main feature of this course is the large undulation of the natural landscape. As a Bintan Golf Resort, BLR caters for different players. The overall concept for the Ian Baker-Finch course was to work closely with the natural site.

Many of the greens are surrounded by steep slopes and mounds to create an amphitheater effect. It will entice, challenge and reward the seasoned player, while the less experienced will find it flexible enough to suit their ability. The par 72 Ian Baker-Finch Woodlands course measures 6211 meters, with five different tee locations to suit golfers of all abilities.

Course highlights include:

8th Hole - The elevated tee at the 526-meter par 5, is a favorite with many. Stretching downhill into the distance before rising to the green, it demands absolute precision from golfers who must negotiate their shots past bunkers, a lake and a solitary tall tree.

13th Hole - On the elevated tee, take in the enticing vista of seaside villas and ocean. This hole is affectionately known as “beauty and the beast”.

I have been here twice, the previous time was a year ago. We played both the IBF course and the JN course. A year ago the IBF course was in good condition and the JN course not so good. This time I found them both in poor condition. I love both the designs but certainly both need a major over haul to carry such big names. Probably would not come back until I hear they have been renovated. I dont think Jack or Ian would be too pleased knowing their names are attached to courses that are no better than well used public courses. Like I said design and location is world class.

Course has very nice view in the tropical forest and well designed except slow green and not avaiable snack shelters.
